Question: What is your favorite event to wait for?
Joshua 24:1-3a, 14-25
Renewing the covenant
We spent a lot of time talking about the rituals around funerals, especially around cremated remains. As I type that, it seems very morbid, but we actually had a wonderfully warm time of remembering those who have chosen cremation, and a discussion of our funeral practices. For the life of me, I can't remember what set us down this path, but it actually led right into our next reading.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
"We do not want you to be uninformed about death" Paul writes
The idea of Restoration for a funeral, and the work of a Funeral Director.
Is "lifelike" really what we want or mean?
Returning tradition of pictures of the open casket as a keepsake for loved ones.
The parable of the bridesmaids.
What about the joy of sharing? Can't we share our oil with others?
"Go away, it's too late."
What is the role of service in this story?
Is our job to complete the task of discipleship? How is it completed?
What about grace?
How do we avoid being locked out of the banquet?
