Thursday Thoughts

Question:  What long-held opinion have you had to change?

Exodus 32:1-14

We don’t like to remember this part of the Exodus.

From the group:  “Aren’t we there (the promised land) yet?”

Sin is going on at the bottom of the holy mountain.

Aaron:  “these are your gods.”

God to Moses:  “let me alone so my wrath may burn hot.”

Moses standing in God’s way.

“And the LORD changed his mind.”

Moses has a lot of guts!

What does this story have to do with a New Testament image of grace?

Do we expect God to forget this incident?

Do we forget when we forgive?  Should we?

Philippians 4:1-9

“everything by prayer and supplication.”

Familiar as a blessing and benediction.

These verses speak deeply within our memories

“peace will guard your hearts and minds”

Matthew 22:1-14

Parable of the Wedding Banquet

Kingdom is like a banquet where everyone is invited.  We love that image.

“The roast is in the oven.”  Living Bible

What does it mean that one is unprepared?

When are we the one unprepared or not participating?

What does this say about our role in discipleship?

What does this say about salvation and life?

Next Week’s Readings:

Exodus 33:12-23

Psalm 99

1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

Matthew 22:15-22

Question to ponder:  What is the smallest check you’ve ever written?  The Largest?
