Epworth United Methodist, located in Valley City, ND, is named for the childhood home of John and Charles Wesley. Epworth is the small village in England where Rev. Samuel and Susanna Annesley Wesley raised their three sons and seven daughters.
It is from the Epworth Old Rectory that a seven year old John was “plucked like a brand from the burning.” The writer of many of the hymns that helped to spread Wesleyan thought and scriptural holiness. We honor the work of their parents and their home community with the name of our congregation of The United Methodist Church.
